United States: Presently, the whooping cough situation is emerging in Wisconsin. This year alone, the state has four times the number of cases recorded for the previous year.
Medical practitioners are therefore calling for prevention and control measures to be implemented and taken respectively.

As per the experts, Pertussis has a long incubation period, so it is possible to observe high figures rising because the disease is easily transmitted.
Specifically, so far this year alone, 278 admitted cases of whooping cough have been recorded in the state. However, there were only 51 reported cases.
What more are the experts stating?
Dr. Jim Conway is a pediatric infectious disease doctor at UW-Health; he is also the Medical Director of the immunization program in Madison.

He explains that every few years, it is generally seen as what he refers to as a “blip year” in a disease or illness. He says that seeing a couple of hundred cases means that there could be a sharp rise in the next few weeks.
Dr. Conway said, “One of my professors used to say, for every case of whooping cough that we diagnose, there are probably ten others out there in the community,” wbay.com reported.
According to Dr. Conway, however, this increase could be a result of a combination of several events.
How to prevent the disease?
“We know a lot of people just fell behind on their vaccines that we are in kind of a tricky situation where measles, mumps, pertussis, those things that are really contagious, are easily spread if we get enough people who aren’t up to date with their vaccines,” Dr. Conway added.

After the doctor has given a diagnosis, the only thing left is to take antibiotics and stop the further spreading of the disease that would not affect the most vulnerable groups in society, especially infants.
According to Dr. Conway, “Babies are the ones we’re super concerned about, when they get it, again, it’s not a treatable disease; once they’ve got it, they’re stuck with it. And it’s heartbreaking. I’ve seen more than my share in my career, and watching a baby with actual whooping, eventually, you have to put them on a ventilator to breathe for them because their airway just shuts down, and it can take weeks or even months to recover,” wbay.com reported.
Physicians say you should check regularly with your healthcare provider to determine whether your vaccinations and booster shots are current for the year.
One good idea is to review the records at least once every year prior to the start of a new school season.
